Grainne and Ian live in a 1910 Edwardian terraced house in Edinburgh, Scotland with fireplaces (plural), high ceilings, wonderful wood floors and built-ins, and oh right — a fabulous, antique-filled kitchen that opens out to a garden. Sigh.

“When we bought the house we knew the kitchen had to go,” says Grainne in this recent Apartment Therapy House Tour. “It was fitted and just not our taste. We lived with it for 5 years, and it was impossible to put our individual stamp on, as it was a mass of cupboards and fake marble worktops.”

Now the kitchen is “the real heart of our home” — a mix of industrial, eclectic, and antique styles, from the schoolhouse counter stools to the vintage stove.

I love how homey this space feels. So much warmth and personality in every corner.
