As we eagerly await the return of Girl Scout Cookie season, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) has just announced a new cookie — and, trust me, it’s one you’re going to want to try.

The new Raspberry Rally cookie is a raspberry version of Thin Mints — aka my favorite Girl Scout Cookie (tied with Samoas, of course) — and they’re everything that a raspberry-lover probably dreams of. They’re described as a thin, crispy cookie infused with raspberry flavor and dipped in a chocolate coating. Unlike Thin Mints, however, the inside has been colored pink, which offers a nice pop of color and a reminder of the flavor.

But what does the cookie actually taste like? Does it actually make you want to rally around the box and eat them all? I got the opportunity to taste them before they’re set to release next season to see how they stack up to my favorite Girl Scout cookie of them all. And in true Girl Scout fashion, it didn’t disappoint.

In my personal opinion, the raspberry flavor is definitely there, but not overpowering, and the pink color on the inside is a nice touch. If you’re a raspberry person, you’ll definitely want to go for these, but if you’re looking for them to replace your Thin Mint obsession, I think you may have your sights set a little too high. (I’m always going to be partial to the original Thin Mint flavor!)

I had my husband and a few friends taste these as well, and most people instantly liked them or didn’t like them. One person noted that these cookies reminded her of Pop-Tarts, and another said she would have liked some jelly in them (and initially thought they were called Raspberry Jelly). “Girl Scouts — they don’t miss,” one taster said. “Of course they’re good.” It all comes down to preference. And while I wouldn’t mind having these again, I’m still partial to the classic Thin Mints.

If you’re eager to taste these yourself when they drop next season, don’t be alarmed if the appearance is a bit different. In case you didn’t know, Girl Scout cookies are made by ABC Bakers or Little Brownie Bakers, GSUSA’s two licensed bakers. Both have similar cookie lineups, but cookie names and recipes may be different — like Samoas and Caramel deLites, or Do-si-dos and Peanut Butter Sandwich. And the new Raspberry Rally flavor is no different. Depending on the area you live in, you may get the version of the cookie that is perfectly round or the other that showcases a scalloped edge.

Overall, I do think the cookies will be a hit — and so does the Girl Scout council. “We always look to create new and delicious flavors that cookie lovers will be excited to taste,” Wendy Lou, chief revenue officer at GSUSA, tells Kitchn. “The Raspberry Rally cookie was developed with both of our licensed bakers and tested among focus groups that expressed significant interest in this flavor.”

Raspberry Rally will make its nationwide debut during the 2023 Girl Scout Cookie season as the first cookie available exclusively online, which should definitely boost e-comm sales for the most coveted cookies around.
