• Other highlights: As a soup lover, I feel like the announcement of the soup-of-the-day upon sitting down at a restaurant is a magical moment. What will it be? Creamy or brothy? Meal-worthy or a light starter? Here, then, is an entire cookbook of magical moments — recipe after recipe gleaned from restaurants like Border Grill and Osteria, as well as plenty of everyday soup favorites served at diners and family restaurants across the country.
The cookbook has a good mix of vegetarian soups, soups inspired by cuisines around the world, light "first course "soups, seasonal favorites, and soups with surprising twists. Ellen Brown keeps things pretty focused on the soups without a lot of distracting extraneous details or lengthy soup origin-stories. Just the soup, ma'am! And that's the way I like it.
