These Ridiculously Delicious, Gluten-Free Bars Are the Only Thing That Satisfies My Sweet Tooth
I often think back on little me and reminisce about the good life. See, even when I was young, I was obsessed with food. I started baking with my grandmother at an early age, and I was one of those kids who just wanted to try everything. And back then, I could. My dad’s “famous” caramelized onion pasta? Seconds please! Toll House ice cream sandwiches, burritos, cupcakes, and — my favorite after-school snack — Chewy bars. These days, I still enjoy eating just as much, but I have a lot more limitations. Because I’m a celiac and pretty lactose intolerant, I have to be a bit more cautious about what I put on my plate.
When I stumbled upon an alternative to my beloved afternoon snack bar, you can bet your bottom dollar I did an actual, real-life dance. This discovery was, in fact, better than my original obsession, and I think your tastebuds will love it, too. Meet Get Golden’s Classic Caramel bars, an elevated, grown-up version, full of good-for-you ingredients that make eating one first thing in the morning totally a-okay.
Why are these bars so absolutely scrumptious? Well, they’re jam packed with the highest-quality whole ingredients and free of any binders, fillers, or refined sugar. Even with just a handful of ingredients, you’ll find tons of fiber, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids. And if you’re thinking yeah, yeah, I’m through with all these healthy-sounding products on the market, trust me — I’m a former pastry chef, so you can rest assured that I know when I’ve come across something special. While these bars lack preservatives and additives, they certainly do not lack in flavor or texture. Perfectly chewy (thanks to coconut butter, chia seeds, and tapioca fiber), the bars have a bite to them. Each piece resists leaving the whole just the right amount as you break it off, exactly like caramel.
The combo of turmeric and brown rice syrup make for a flavor that, IMO, tastes sweet (but not overwhelmingly so, each bar only has 5 grams of natural sugar), bright (thanks to the fresh notes from the turmeric), salty (who doesn’t love the combo of salt and caramel?), and nutty (we’re talking almonds, pecans, cashews, and pumpkin seeds). Unlike with other bars, I find myself totally satisfied, full even, after scarfing down my daily Get Golden.
It didn’t surprise me to learn that the bars were meticulously recipe tested and developed by NYC Ballet ballerina Jenelle Manzi. After years of struggling to find the perfect wholesome and nutritious snack that didn’t give her a sugar high (and subsequent crash), Jenelle decided to make her own. I munch on mine with my morning coffee, and I always have one in my purse for when I’m sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic and need a pick-me-up.
The bars just came out last week, finally fulfilling the orders of more than 1,300 snack-hungry folks on the waitlist… which leads me to my next point. These yummy little morsels are bound to sell out fast, so I suggest you click over to the website ASAP. Oh, and before I forget, I have a little something that makes this whole thing even sweeter: You can score 10 percent off your first order using code GGINTHEKITCHN at checkout. Pretty awesome right?
Discount code or not, I know I’ll be ordering a few more boxes, because even though I try to hide them, my sneaky family members somehow snagged way too many bars from my last box. They (and you) can thank me later.
