If you’ve been thinking about trying a meal kit service, here’s some extra incentive to finally do it: Sign up for HelloFresh between now and August 31, and you’ll save up to 50 percent on your first box. For example, three classic meals for two people are now just $30 instead of $60. After that deadline, you won’t go totally hungry (or broke) — you’ll still have another month (until September 1) to save up to 40 percent off.

How HelloFresh Works

Upon signing up, you select a plan. You can choose a plan (vegetarian or not) for two or four people, or you can pick a plan for two adults and two children. Then you pick how many meals you want (three, four, or five — although you might have limitations based on your plan and the number of people you’re feeding). You set up the day and time of your delivery for any day except for Sunday. Then, depending on the plan you picked, you either get to pick your own meals, or you set some preferences and the powers that be will pick for you each week.

Note: The vegetarian and family subscriptions do not allow you to pick your meals. The classic plan lets you choose from eight recipes.

Of course, you can modify, pause, or cancel your delivery as needed.

Why Pick HelloFresh?

There’s certainly no shortage of meal kit companies, so how are you supposed to pick between them all? Well, you could let price dictate the way and take advantage of this sale, or you could dive into the various meal kit reviews on this very site.

Assistant Food Editor Kelli Foster tested HelloFresh and tried three meals from the classic (omnivore) plan: Smoky Adobo Chicken Tacos, Seared Provencal Steak, and Charred Scallion and Corn Flatbread.

Here’s what she had to say: “Each one had fresh ingredients, and produced well-flavored, ample-sized meals. I was most pleased with the quality and size of the meals. All three meals were really delicious. I felt full and satisfied after each of the meals, and didn’t feel like I needed to add a salad or another side dish.”
