Have you planted anything yet this spring? We've been inspired by Phoebe's window garden, and by the flourishing pots of herbs at the farmers market, but we're also thinking of venturing out this summer past the little pots of basil, rosemary and sage on our front stoop. We're drooling over the rare and exotic seeds at Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds - a treasure trove of inspiration for both flower and vegetable gardens.
The owners, Jere and Emilee Gettle, have a passion for researching and preserving heirloom varieties in this increasingly homogenized American food culture. They visit festivals, take pictures, and make many of their finds available through their website. From sorghum to leeks to many, many different kinds of melons and tomatoes, there's varieties of good food here just begging to be grown and eaten.
Are you growing anything new this season?
