Why I Always Keep a Pickle in My Freezer
You’ve obviously heard of grated Parmesan on your food, or even cracked black pepper. But how about grated frozen pickles? Yes, you read that correctly. If you’re a huge fan of pickles and love to season your food with all things pickled, like your salads or your sandwiches, then you’re going to love this nifty pickle trick that we just discovered.
Here’s how it works: Place a pickle in the freezer in a sealed plastic bag. Then when you’re about to serve a dish that would be great with a pickled finish, grab that frozen pickle and grate it using a cheese grater or a micro blade to add that sprinkle of pickle on top. It makes for the perfect tart topping on all of those creamy and fresh salads and soups that you love to make. You’re welcome.
This particular trick is one that I discovered from @ainttooproudtomeg on Instagram. In her video she makes a salad with colorful slices of heirloom tomatoes, torn pieces of burrata cheese, drizzled olive oil, a sprinkle of salt, and then grated frozen pickle to top it all off.
Pickle lovers are absolutely loving this clever trick: “I’m here for this combo,” writes one food lover on Instagram. “This looks so good!” exclaims another.
Besides this gorgeous colorful salad, what other recipes goes with grated pickle? Instead of adding slices to your burgers, grate some of the pickle on top before sliding it onto the bun. This also works for other sandwiches like tuna melts and fried chicken sandwiches. Grated pickle will also work with salads like pasta salad and potato salad, and is also a great garnish for recipes like a creamy white bean and kale soup or even fried eggs on toast.
