Before you put together that breakfast bowl or assemble that smoothie, take a pause and check that bag: There’s been a frozen berry recall due to Hepatitis A concerns, and you’ll want to make sure that the berries you use are not a part of the bad batches. The first part of the recall was announced earlier this week, but it has been expanded, and anyone who is currently keeping frozen blackberries in their fridge would be smart to triple check if theirs are included.

The berries concerned by the recall are frozen blackberries sold by a brand called Townsend Farms, and were part of frozen berry mixes sold at Kroger and Costco stores around the country. But the packaging varies on them, so you’ll want to check your freezer very carefully. The Kroger stores (which includes Ralph’s, QFC, Dillon’s, Harris Teeter, and more) sold them as Private Selection, in both the 16-ounce blackberry packages and the frozen triple berry medley packs.

Over at Costco, the recall affected Costco’s Kirkland Signature three berry blend — sold only in California and Hawaii. If you think you might have any of the berries listed sitting in your freezer, make sure to check the FDA website for more information to confirm that your berries are safe. If they are not safe, you’ll want to throw them out or return them to a store for a refund. You do not want to take the risk for even just one more smoothie: Hepatitis A causes liver infection, and you could be sick for months from it. If you think you might have eaten the berries listed on the recall, you’ll want to make sure to call your doctor ASAP regarding your Hepatitis A vaccination status and potential interventions.
