Black Friday/Cyber Monday week is here! Check out all of our sales and deals coverageand sign up for our new Cook/Shop newsletter to keep up with the latest deals.

Attention Costco members (or anyone who’s thinking about becoming a member or has ever bought meat in bulk, batch-cooked for the week, or had to deal with freezer burn): You need a vacuum sealer. Yes, you really do, and this is coming from me — someone who is generally opposed to anything extra in the kitchen, especially single-use gadgets.

Right now is the time to get one: FoodSaver’s intro-level vacuum sealer is on sale for 38 percent off as part of Amazon’s Cyber Monday deals.

There are fancier vacuum sealers out there, but FoodSaver is a trusted brand and this inexpensive model is perfect if you’re new to vacuum sealers and want to try one out without spending big bucks. For what it’s worth, we also like this slightly pricier version, also from FoodSaver and also on sale (for $69 instead of $89).

Okay, but back to why you need a vacuum sealer in the first place. Here’s the thing about a vacuum sealer: It’s not actually a single-use gadget. Yes, it’s great for divvying up Costco bulk buys and keeping freezer burn at bay (unlike those “freezer-proof” containers or zip-top bags). But, it’s also good for so many other things. Here are five things this on-sale vacuum sealer can do for you.

1. Reseal Chip Bags

This also works for any other perishable pantry items — like pretzels, crackers, etc. —that could end up going stale the day after you open the bag.

2. Make Quick & Easy Marinades

Think you can’t marinade those boneless, skinless chicken breasts on a weeknight? Think again. With a vacuum sealer you can get the job done in 30 minutes.

3. Save Space

In the freezer, in the refrigerator, and in the pantry, your vacuum sealer will make it feel like you have twice as much storage — and who doesn’t want that?

4. Preserve Leftovers

Here’s the thing about leftovers: You often don’t really want to eat them the next day because, well, you just had them last night! Using your vacuum saver keeps them fresher longer in the fridge or freezer, so you can actually enjoy them the second time around.

5. Save Your Summer Vegs

Do you have a garden? Do you always have too many tomatoes/herbs/zucchini? Try freezing them. It’s the easiest way to save your summer produce.
