This Cute Kitchen Will Make You Want to Swap Out Your Dining Chairs with Folding Chairs. Seriously.
Repeat after me: Yes, you can replace your dining chairs with folding chairs. And yes, they can still look super stylish! Still have some doubts after that affirmation? Take a look at this artsy Brooklyn loft, owned by Argentinian artist and photographer Laura Serventi and her husband, fashion photographer Filippo Del Vita, who prove that it’s entirely possible.
I don’t know about you, but at first glance, my eyes went right to the bright turquoise folding chairs from IKEA. A lot of households break out the folding chairs when they need extra seating for entertaining, but Laura and Filippo decided to make theirs a permanent fixture. Sure, folding chairs are an unconventional choice, but they’re also a playful touch that ties the eclectic, industrial space together.
According to Laura, the biggest issue she took with their living space is the lack of walls. “Trying to create defined areas within the open space has been quite a challenge,” she says. While it may have been a struggle to define the loft’s spaces, the kitchen loudly makes its presence known with bright pops of color and tons of personal touches.
The table (where the folding chairs reside) was a flea market find. “The top wasn’t in great shape, so we added a piece of acrylic to replace it,” says Laura, pointing out a clever way to update an older wooden table. The mint-colored kitchen island (which I’m obsessed with) is from Crate & Barrel, and the rest of the cabinetry is from IKEA.
According to Laura, her biggest embarrassment is that she’s “very untidy,” but I beg to differ. The eclectic decor choices and collections on display in the kitchen add just the right amount of artsy charm, and don’t look like a mess in the slightest. I especially love that Laura chose to decorate with her own prints, which are available on Etsy. All of these fun, personal touches make the kitchen truly unique.
Here is the loft kitchen in all of its glory! It’s filled with quirky touches picked up in vintage stores, flea markets, and on their travels. All in all, the space tells the story of Laura and Filippo’s creative life together. And now, it’s time for me to get some vibrant folding chairs!
