How To Make the Absolute Easiest 2-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and for many of us that means opting for a romantic dinner at home rather than going to an expensive and crowded restaurant. Date night is all about setting the mood, and that means a beautiful meal that feels fancy and luxurious. And, of course, chocolate dessert.

Chocolate is the most romantic of dessert options, and there are many ways to go with it. But making an option like chocolate lava cake is going to be pretty time-consuming, and that’s the last thing I want when mixing up martinis and prepping lobster tails. So when I came across Sarah Fennel of Broma Bakery’s easy five-ingredient blender chocolate mousse, I knew it was the perfect solution.

It’s hard to get more sexy than a luxurious dish of rich and chocolatey mousse, and this recipe couldn’t be easier. You can skip those arduous tasks you see in other mousse recipes, such as separating eggs and tempering chocolate. Just add finely chopped chocolate, espresso powder, and an egg to a blender and let it do its work. If you don’t have a blender, a food processor on the highest setting should work just fine as well.

While that’s mixing, bring water to boil in a saucepan and add that to the blender mixture. If you don’t have a saucepan nearby, water in a cup in the microwave would get the job done, too.

Then, heat heavy cream in the same method as the water, but take the cream off the heat just before it begins to boil. Add the cream to the blending chocolate mixture, and then add in vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt. This will be blended all together on high speed for a minute until it’s smooth and creamy.

Separately, you’ll be whisking together cold whipping cream in a bowl, until it forms those beautiful soft peaks. Pour the blended chocolate mixture into the whisked whipped cream and fold in. And voila! This simple mousse is done. Just spoon into containers and refrigerate for about an hour to set.

The beautiful thing about this easy recipe is that it requires so few ingredients and it’s easily adaptable to your preferences. Use any chocolate you prefer, as long as it’s high-quality. You’ll want to keep in mind, though, that the type of chocolate you use (dark, semi-sweet, or milk) will create a completely different sweetness level and final taste.

As for the toppings, anything from chocolate shavings to fresh fruit or more whipped cream could be beautiful. The options are truly endless.
