This Inexpensive, Old-School Stain Remover Has a Close-to-Perfect Amazon Rating
There are dozens of options out there for stain removers, from chemical-ridden sprays to all-natural and DIY options. But, for hundreds of Amazon reviewers, there’s one stain treatment that stands out from the rest. Arguably the most popular stain treatment on Amazon, the Fels-Naptha Laundry Soap Bar has been around for more than a century, and it’s not losing any steam.
What could be so special about a laundry bar? Apparently, there’s a lot to love about Fels-Naptha, which is said to remove greasy, oily stains from laundry items. For starters, it’s fairly inexpensive. On Amazon, a two-pack of the soap is less than $7, but some reviewers say they’ve found it cheaper — even for just $1 a bar — at their local grocery store. It’s also easy to use: Just wet the tip of the soap bar or the stained area of your garment, then rub vigorously and let it sit for a few minutes before washing.
Not surprisingly, with a 4.7-star rating (out of 5), the bar has no shortage of rave reviews. Apparently, on top of removing basic grease spots, Fels-Naptha is amazing at removing heavy-duty stains, even on light or white clothes. One user wrote, “This product works wonders on cleaning deep, hard-to-clean stains. Used it to clean my son’s baseball pants and jersey (white in color). Follow the directions, and wash the garment. I was skeptical at first, this product made me a believer.”
Another user says the bar works wonders on gross baby stains: “This was given to us from a friend with four children saying it’s the best soap they found for getting baby poop stains out of clothes. It has not disappointed. White clothes have managed to be saved so far.”
The Fels-Naptha bar can also be used in the wash along with your normal detergent — or in place of it! One Amazon user recommends shaving off some of the bar with a vegetable peeler and tossing it in the laundry to remove body oils from pillowcases and sheets and other clothing stains. You can also grate your bar of Fels-Naptha to make your own homemade laundry detergent.
