Lately, our Studio Food Editor Amelia has been searching for some aha moments in the kitchen. As one of Kitchn’s recipe developers and food stylists, she’s passionate about cooking; as a mother who is now working from home with her family, she’s been feeling unmotivated and uninspired. When we asked her to give Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon a try, she replied with an eager yes.

These meal kits are for adventurous home cooks who want to reach a little beyond their comfort zone but don’t have a lot of time to plan and prep their weeknight meals. They use seasonal ingredients, and the great tasting recipes are approved by Martha Stewart herself. With all this in mind, Amelia was game.

A Good Pick for a Picky Eater

Amelia cooks for her family of three every night. Her nine-year-old daughter is a pretty open-minded eater, but — just like any kid — she can be picky at times. Amelia was excited to try Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon meal kits because, as she puts it, “Who doesn’t love Martha? As an experienced cook, I trust her completely. I know that with Martha you will get an elegant meal, plus some smart cooking tips, too!”

All three recipes Amelia prepared — Honey-Dijon Glazed Steak, Sautéed Pork Chop with Apples & Onions, and Sheet Pan Chicken & Cheesy Broccoli — were a hit with her family. “I love a pan sauce, so I chose three meals that had one,” Amelia said. Drizzling your usual steak and potatoes with a sweet and tangy pan sauce made from honey, Dijon mustard, thyme, and balsamic vinegar is a smart way to add flair to a classic meal. “And,” she added, “who can say no to cheesy broccoli? Really, we liked all of our meals — I would make and eat all of them again.”

As someone who knows her way around the kitchen, Amelia isn’t one to settle. “I have tried a few different meal kits, but Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon hands down has the best-tasting recipes I have ever tried,” she said. “Their flavors and textures just come together much better than the others.”

Teaching Old Cooks New Tricks

Amelia also appreciated the teaching moments in the recipes. “I love how Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon doesn’t shy away from teaching a cook some moderate cooking techniques,” Amelia said. “Making a pan sauce is something you learn in culinary school, but it’s so easy — anyone can do it! Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon makes those finer techniques easy and approachable.”
