How To Make Spinach & Shrimp Dip
This recipe is very simple and straightforward to make, but the creator does not provide exact measurements for all of the ingredients. So, in the places that measurements weren’t supplied, I used what I thought would fit well.
To start, place a cast iron skillet on medium high heat and after it heats up, add 2 tablespoons of butter. Once you’ve added your butter, add in a tablespoon of minced garlic and 1 ounce of chopped parsley. After about two minutes of stirring your garlic and parsley around in the skillet and them becoming fragrant, add in your 2 cups of spinach. You’ll combine those ingredients until your spinach has wilted.
Once your spinach has wilted down, mix in 2 cups of heavy whipping cream. While your heavy whipping cream is mingling with your spinach, take this opportunity to cook your shrimp on the stovetop. I used a half pound of jumbo shrimp, deveined and diced into little cubes. I also seasoned them using a pinch of salt and pepper and a tablespoon of Old Bay seasoning. In a smaller oiled pan, add your shrimp and cook until opaque in color. Set aside until it’s time to add them in.
Next, you’ll take 8 ounces of cream cheese and add it into your skillet of spinach and heavy whipping cream. Stir in well and once it begins to bubble a little, add in your 3 ounces of shredded Parmesan and 3 ounces of mozzarella cheese. Once you start to see it become creamy and cheesy, that’s your cue to add in the diced shrimp and cook on medium heat for an additional 5 minutes.
While that’s cooking, preheat your oven to 375°F. Once ready, remove your skillet from the stovetop and place it in the oven to cook for an additional 10 minutes. After your 10 minutes are up, place the skillet on the top rack to broil for an additional 4 minutes. This will help you achieve a perfectly cheesy crust over the top. While you can eat this dip in any way you’d like, I enjoyed mine with homemade tortilla chips to start and with homemade garlic bread on the side for my second bowl.
My Honest Review of Spinach & Shrimp Dip
This recipe was pretty simple to make. A quick and fun dish to make even on a busy weekday, it’s an ideal dish to enjoy while watching the big Super Bowl game with family and friends or just to have while watching your favorite show. The dip was very cheesy and tasted delicious. I did have to place it on the stovetop for an additional five minutes on medium high heater after removing it from the oven the last time, but that’s just because I like my dip a bit thicker so that it will stay on the chip. Overall, though, I would definitely make this again.
4 Tips For Making Spinach & Shrimp Dip
- You can cook the entire dish on the stove. Although I did use the oven to start, I found it a lot easier and more efficient to cook everything on the stovetop instead of having to add it into the oven consistently. And if you like your dip to have a thicker consistency like I do, the stovetop is the best way to accomplish it.
- Don’t skip the broiling method at the end. While I truly suggest cooking this on the stovetop, finishing it off with 4 minutes in the oven on broil is very helpful for both the taste and presentation. By broiling it, you’ll get a cheesy crust over the top that screams perfection.
- Try subbing out white pepper over black pepper. Although this is a small thing, I would have preferred to use white pepper over black pepper to add a bit more heat to the dish.
- While you can eat it with anything on the side, homemade is the way to go. I didn’t think I would see a difference in taste by using homemade tortilla chips and garlic bread, but it was the best decision I could have made. The homemade options bring out more of the flavor of the dip and are the perfect complement to the extra-cheesy dish.
