This vacuum is a model from Neato, but the convenience is the same.

I think I’m in love with my robot vacuum.

I’d been toying with the idea of trying one for quite some time. But my attitude could best be described as that’d be nice if really worked. And I couldn’t bring myself to spend hundreds of dollars for something I was skeptical of.

But the combination of having seven people (and three pets!) home all the time and an Amazon sale for this well-rated Eufy robot vacuum (I got it for $100 below the current list price; it felt like a steal!) compelled me to take the plunge. I was finding it hard to keep up with the crumbs and dirt that rained down on our floors, and I was willing to take a chance on anything that could help make a dent in my perpetual cleaning — it seemed like an investment in both my peace of mind and our household’s happiness.

My dubious hands set up the machine and I waited until the kids were in bed to start the show. I expected to be amused by watching the cats’ reactions to the Eufy. What I did not expect was that I would outlast the cats’ curiosity in watching the robot vacuum’s every single move. My husband took a video of me following the machine around.

I was enthralled. Not only did I, inexplicably, find some of the Eufy’s moves really cute (the little back-and-forth jag she does while in perimeter mode is my favorite), but I was genuinely impressed by her thoroughness and attention to detail (can I say that about an electronic device?). She legit vacuums the edges of the walls and around all the furniture legs better than a person wielding a vacuum cleaner (especially when that person “runs out of time” to use the crevice tool in these areas).

Pleasantly surprised, I texted my family and friends about my discovery that robot vacuums are actually great and they should think about getting one stat. I was not expecting that every single person I texted had already had one for quite some time! I received replies like, “Oh, yeah, we’ve had one for years and love it” or “We have one for upstairs and downstairs. Does yours have a name?” (We call him Eufy.)

If anyone let me in on this daily life-changing secret weapon, I clearly wasn’t listening. But I’m a complete convert and I’m here to tell you: If you’re on the fence, robot vacuums are not too good to be true, they’re totally worth the hype, and don’t be surprised at how unexpectedly entertaining it is to watch an adorable little circle pick up your messes and hand you a much cleaner house.
