The Best Way to Spend $5,000 on Etsy
When was the last time you browsed Etsy with plans to spend a hard-earned five grand? Never? Same, same. I like to think of Etsy as the kind of place people visit when they’re looking for a hand-woven tapestry for their breakfast nook, or a custom carved wooden spoon to give as a wedding gift. Maybe we splurge a little bit while shopping on the site, but I never considered it to be the kind of place where people plan to actually drop the big bucks.
It wasn’t until I saw these beauties that I realized the unthinkable might actually be … thinkable!
This sight to behold is the fine handiwork of Greg Frehr, a Bronx, NY-based craftsman who started the Swing Tables Etsy shop. Greg uses a combination of steel, maple, cedar, and other hardwoods to create dreamy custom tables built to shoppers’ exact specs. The chairs are suspended by chains or ropes, which seems like a darn good way to HANG out with family and friends. (Sorry, can’t help it.)
If you’ve been stumped on what kind of patio seating situation to get for all of those summer dinners outside, look no further — because Swing Tables are not just for indoor use! This photo is giving me major nostalgia for those long summer nights I spent with my siblings eating melty ice pops on our swing set in the backyard.
Of course, as I hinted with that whole five-grand thing, these sets don’t come cheap. (And you don’t really want them to because you want these things to be quality!) Prices range with the highest (a six-seater with a built-in planter box, above) ringing up at $6,050 and the smallest option (a two-seater, below) at $3,950.
Each table is handmade to order, ships in three to four weeks, and comes via “white-glove delivery or freight/crate with curbside/garage delivery.” I would be remiss not to tell you that shipping is not included in the price of this setup, though.
Ed Note: Greg’s shop has nearly 500 “admirers” on Etsy (aka people who have favorited Swing Tables) and has only completed one sale so far. Something tells me that those numbers are going to go up soon, though.
What do you think? Would you splurge for one of these dreamy swing-set tables?
