As much as I dislike those personal finance articles that condemn people for spending too much money on coffee — as if saving even $100 every month would be enough for a down payment on a home — they do make one reasonable point. The price you pay for a cup of coffee varies wildly depending on if you make it at home or buy it from a cafe. And, unlike espressos and cappuccinos, which require equipment that would be really expensive to buy yourself, you can make cafe-quality cold brew at home without having to spend much at all.

I used to think I was saving money by purchasing half-gallon-sized jugs of cold brew coffee from the supermarket, but I really started saving money when I got a cold brew coffee maker of my own. This cold brew coffee maker doesn’t require you to boil any water or use any fancy barista-style techniques. All you have to do is take one of the provided extra-large paper filters, put it in the metal container, add ground coffee and water, then leave the whole thing in the fridge overnight. My favorite thing about this cold brew coffee maker is simply how easy it is to use. As long as you follow either one of the recipes in the instructions or follow one from a trusted source, you’ll have amazingly smooth and refreshing cold brew coffee whenever you want it. I also like how well the brewing container is built and that it’s designed to never leak. I’ve used other cold brew makers that I don’t trust as much, so I end up putting them inside a large tray in my fridge just in case they spill overnight. But with this tool, I never have to worry about that.

The only thing I don’t love about this machine is that it requires you to use paper filters. I prefer reusable filters because you only buy them once and they create less waste.
