It’s hard to beat the convenience and comfort of English muffin pizza. The cheesy hand-held treat is as much of a hit with kids as it is with harried adults. Split a few store-bought English muffins; top them with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and your choice of extra toppings; and broil until they’re melted and gooey. Pizza night doesn’t get easier than this.

How Do You Keep English Muffin Pizzas from Getting Soggy?

The key to keeping English muffins pizzas from getting soggy is to toast the split muffins before topping them with sauce and cheese. This protects the nooks and crannies from soaking up too much of the sauce’s moisture, and prevents a soggy English muffin crust.

How Long Do You Cook an English Muffin Pizza?

It takes next to no time to cook an English muffin pizza. The split English muffins will need about five minutes in the oven to toast, and once topped, they’ll broil for just three to four minutes to melt the cheese and heat the pizzas fully.

Nutritional Info

Ingredients

  • 4

    English muffins

  • 3/4 cup

    pizza or marinara sauce, divided

  • 1 1/2 cups

shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese (about 6 ounces), divided

  • Toppings options: Mini pepperoni, sliced olives, sautéed mushrooms

  • Garnish options: Torn fresh basil leaves, grated Parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Arrange a rack 6 to 8 inches below the broiling element and heat the oven to 400ºF. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Split 4 English muffins in half with a fork. Place cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Toast in the oven until very lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Set aside and set the oven to broil.

  3. Divide 3/4 cup pizza or marinara sauce between the English muffins (1 1/2 tablespoons on each half) and spread to the edges. Sprinkle with 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese. Scatter with toppings if desired.

  4. Broil until the cheese is melted and browned in spots, rotating the baking sheet as needed, 3 to 4 minutes. Garnish with torn fresh basil leaves, grated Parmesan, and/or red pepper flakes if desired.

Recipe Notes

Make ahead: The pizzas can be assembled and refrigerated unbaked up to 1 day in advance, or frozen for up to 1 month. Freeze on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet until solid then transfer to an airtight container or large zip-top bag. Bake straight from the freezer (no need to thaw) at 375°F until the cheese is melted and the pizzas are heated through, about 15 minutes.

Storage: Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
