Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry Are Hosting the New Season of “The Great American Baking Show”
Fans of The Great British Baking Show (called The Great British Bake Off in the U.K.) may be excited to learn that there is an American version of the popular baking competition show. In fact, it’s been going on for five seasons and it’s been announced that the sixth season will be co-hosted by Ellie Kemper (who you may know from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Bridesmaids, or The Office) and Zach Cherry (from Severance).
Announced this week, The Great American Baking Show is set to premiere next year on the Roku Channel and will include six hour-long episodes. Judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, production for the show is currently underway in the U.K. in the show’s iconic white tent. And just like the original British show, the U.S. adaptation will feature amateur bakers tackling a series of baking challenges in the hopes of being crowned the winner.
“We could not ask for a more perfect duo than Ellie and Zach to co-host The Great American Baking Show,” Brian Tannenbaum, head of alternative originals at Roku, said in a statement. “Our adaptation of the iconic series will continue to dish out the enduring warmth and humor that fans of the Baking Show universe love, with a twist that we know Ellie and Zach will deliver.”
As a massive fan of The Great British Baking Show, I hope this rings true. Unlike many American cooking competition shows, which are fueled by drama (whether it’s between contestants, emotional backstories, or over-the-top twists to make the task at hand more difficult), there is wholesomeness, camaraderie between contestants, and purity of sport that — in my opinion — makes The Great British Baking Show so endearing. In any case, I’m happy to have something to watch as I eagerly wait for the premiere of the next season of The Great British Baking Show.
Here’s hoping there will be just as many Paul Hollywood handshakes as the British version!
