Although the beloved stand mixer has become a mainstay in so many of our kitchens, not everyone has one. And oftentimes, a handheld electric mixer gets the job done just as well. The only thing with the handheld mixer is that, as the name implies, you have to hold it and cannot walk away.

This clever hack, however, provides a solution to the hand-cramping problem that sometimes comes with the electric hand mixer: Place the beaters of the electric mixer through a wire cooling rack and set it over the mixing bowl. The rack lets you keep the mixer in place without having to hold it or stand watch.

There are a few different scenarios where this hack could come in handy, such as when making buttercream frosting for cake or perhaps when blending batter for brownies. The best time to use this hack, however, is probably when a recipe calls for whipping up cream or egg whites. If you’ve ever tried to do so by hand or with an electric mixer, you know it can be a time-consuming process.
