If you’re a coffee drinker, you know that the gear you use to make and sip the stuff is just as important as the beans themselves. For example, you need a brewing gadget that fits in with your routine, you need a mug that’s comfortable to drink from, and so on! Of course, it’s all highly personal. What works for you might not work for someone else.

What works for Kitchn editors? See, our editors work long hours — writing posts, shooting videos, developing recipes, washing dishes, etc. We’re also big coffee drinkers and we spend a lot of time trying out coffee-related gear. (A perk of the job. Pun intended!) So we rounded up some of the best gadgets that got us through 2021. Take a look. You might just find something in here that works for you, too.

1. Aeropress

“I love my Aeropress! It’s perfect for making a strong-but-smooth cup of coffee. It’s especially great if you are trying to limit yourself to one cup of coffee (although it’s not that hard to make a second cup).” Megan O. Steintrager, Senior Food Editor

2. YETI Tumblers

“We amassed quite the collection of Yeti mugs this year and in 2020 (even though we hardly go anywhere … ). They keep coffee and tea HOT (and we have a toddler, which means we’d never get to drink hot bevs otherwise!).” Lauren Kodiak, Copy Chief

3. OXO Burr Grinder

“I used to bother my best friend, who owns a coffee shop, to grind my beans for me, but that got very annoying for everyone. (Mostly for him, I imagine!) I got this grinder based on the recommendation of our resident coffee expert and couldn’t be happier with it. It’s very easy to use, wildly thorough, and not too noisy. I can now grind my beans each morning and the resulting brews always taste super fresh and robust. ” Lisa Freedman, Executive Lifestyle Director

4. Threshold Glass Canister

“I’ve been looking for a pretty way to store my coffee filters and finally found this jar from Target. It holds basket filters perfectly. Note: I know I could get a reusable filter, but I compost my grounds and filters.” Patty Catalano, Contributor

5. Fellow Carter Mug

“I am obsessed with my Fellow travel mug! It keeps coffee warm for an impressively long time and has kept me fueled on so many road trips.” Grace Elkus, Deputy Food Director

6. Technivorm Coffee Maker

“After testing a whole bunch of coffee makers earlier this year, this one came out on top. It’s so worth the splurge — it makes perfectly brewed coffee time after time, and the thermal carafe keeps coffee warm for hours.” Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm, Tools Editor
