Item: Eco-Friendly, Dishwasher-Safe iPad Stand from Chef Sleeve
Price: $34.99
Overall Impression: Smart design, slim and light-weight, looks equally classy on the kitchen counter or in the coffee shop.

I use my iPad constantly in the kitchen—double-checking a recipe, looking up a weight conversion, reading email while the water comes to a boil. Having a stand to hold the iPad upright and keep it out of harm’s way when whisking and stirring is essential. With this new stand from Chef Sleeve, form meets function in one of the most beautiful designs I’ve seen yet.

The Review

Characteristics and Specs: Made from pressed wood in collaboration with Epicurean, this iPad stand weighs just a few ounces, is less than an inch thick, and is roughly the size of your hand. Rubber feet keep it from slipping on the counter, and the stand can be run through the dishwasher. Two slots of different widths allow you to stand the iPad upright or at an angle, with a cover or without a cover.
Favorite details: I just love the minimalist design and the elegant feel of this stand. It looks like a natural part of my kitchen.
Potential problems: If you have a cover on your iPad, only the wider of the two slots can be used.
Splurge-worthy? Yes!
Good for small kitchens? Yes! It doesn’t take up much counter real-estate and can be easily tucked away when not in use.

I’ve been using this stand for several weeks now and couldn’t be more happy with it. When I first pulled it from the pacakge, I was nervous that the light-weight stand might not be totally stable on the work surface or that the iPad might easily slip out of the groove if knocked, but my fears proved unnecessary. The iPad sits snugly in the groove and feels completely balanced, even with some jostling.

And I’ll also admit that I’m wooed by good looks. I love the natural wood (ok, wood composite!) and the way it contrasts with the techy-looking iPad. Sitting on my counter, the whole set-up looks very natural and aesthetically pleasing to me. I set it off to the side of my counter while doing prep work, where I can check the iPad when I need to but it’s out of the action.

Chef Sleeve certainly seems to be on the pulse of what homecooks need in the kitchen, first with their protective iPad and iPhone sleeves and now with this dishwasher-safe iPad stand. I give this one a thumbs up.
