Easy Table Decorations: Eat the Centerpiece

Last Christmas, I made a light sushi lunch so we wouldn’t lose our appetite for Christmas dinner. It was a casual meal but the mood was festive, so I lit some tea candles and eyed the bowl of clementines on the sideboard…

Winter meals in Paris often end with a bowl of seasonal clementines and fresh lychees — usually brought out after dessert and coffee. I had planned to skip the dessert, but not the clementines, so I used them to help spruce up the table — an edible centerpiece that works well in winter. In summertime, what about an edible centerpiece of grapes? Cherries? Fresh figs?

Anyone else have ideas for edible summertime table decorations?
