Make Kitchen Cleanup Way Easier with These Super-Simple Tricks
Why can’t there be an Easy Button when it comes to cleaning the kitchen? Imagine, you simply press a big, red button and, suddenly, all of the dirty dishes in the sink are washed and put away, countertops are sanitized, every crumb on the floor vaporizes, and all the stinky things in your fridge show themselves to the trash. What a beautiful world that would be, right?
While we wait for someone to make that happen, we took matters into our own hands. We asked Rachel Hoffman, the author of Unf*ck Your Habitat, an unpretentious (and hilarious) guide to housekeeping, for her own Easy Button-esque tips, aka the simplest bits of kitchen cleaning advice she could think of.
Here are Rachel’s no-brainer cleaning habits for every kitchen. Consider adding them to your cleaning regimen ASAP (if you haven’t already) and we swear they’ll make your life a whole heck of a lot easier.
1. Work while you wait.
“Wash your dinner prep dishes while your food is cooking, wipe down the counters while the coffee pot is brewing, wash some dishes while you’re waiting for water to boil — you get the idea.”
2. Aim for Sink Zero.
“Make it a point to have a completely empty sink at least once a day to start. This means not only dealing with your dirty dishes right away, but also putting your clean dishes away ASAP after washing, so you can keep the clean dish cycle going and going.”
3. Clean out your fridge right before grocery shopping.
“If you start with a fresh fridge, you’ll have a good idea of what you have and what you need before adding anything to the mix. Not to mention, you’ve just made a bunch of room to make putting the groceries away much easier.”
Do you already do any of these three things? Do you have any Easy Button-like tips to add?
