With each new season, there are new home collections to look forward to. Without a doubt, the most exciting ones drop around the winter holidays, providing plenty of opportunities for you to find the perfect gift for a loved one or upgrade your own space. Among all of the the seasonal releases, East Fork’s are some of the launches we look forward to the most. You can always expect to see their popular pottery in a fun new glaze every couple of months. This time around, they’ve re-released a fan-favorite: Henri’s Red. They first unveiled this festive shade around this time last year, which I covered. At the time, I had never personally tried any East Fork products. But now, over a year later, their Everyday bowl is a staple in my kitchen. It, too, is available in the limited-edition vibrant red hue, but that’s not the only reason why you should snag your own.

What is the Everyday Bowl?

You can find a plate for every meal and purpose at East Fork, but there’s perhaps none as versatile as the aptly named Everyday bowl. Handmade by real potters from lead-free, local materials, it boats a 3.5-cup capacity and an 8-inch diameter. You’ll find that the bowl is deep enough for soup yet shallow enough for pretty much everything else, making it the go-to plate for every meal of the day. As for its fiery new color, “Henri’s Red” pays homage to — you guessed it Henri Matisse. (East Fork’s founder, Alex Matisse, is the artist’s great-grandson.) Specifically, the work “The Red Studio” provides the meaning behind the glaze. Really, you can’t go wrong with any piece from the collection, whether you opt for the best-selling mug, the dinner plate, or the coupe.

Why I Love the Everyday Bowl

Simply put, the Everyday bowl is the only plate I use at home, so it’s a good thing this piece is so well-made. I own two but only keep one of the bowls in my kitchen, which I share with three other people. Between my cookware, blender, and water bottles, I really don’t have space for any additional plates on my dedicated cabinet shelf. (Tiny kitchen problems, am I right?) But thanks to this piece, I’m fine with that. I’ve had the bowl since spring, and after months of using it every day, multiple times a day, it’s still in mint condition. I’ll be honest, I was worried that the bowl would chip upon unboxing it. The Everyday bowl is thick and weighty, but it still has a somewhat delicate feel. But, it’s been about eight months, and there’s nary a scratch or chip in sight. And because it’s so thick, the bowl doesn’t burn my hands, even when I fill it with steaming hot soup. I also appreciate its smooth glaze and slightly speckled appearance and texture.

But most of all, I love that this bowl is the perfect size and shape for every meal I eat, whether it’s oatmeal in the morning, rice and veggies mid-day, or ice cream for dessert. Whether you pick one up in Henri’s Red or one of the other pretty colors, you, too, are bound to get plenty of use out of this long-lasting piece. Once you see how great the bowls are, you’ll probably want to gift a couple, too.
