Just in time for Earth Day, we wanted to share two tree-friendly cutting board options: teak and cork.

We’d never heard of cork cutting boards before …

Cork is harvested from from the bark of trees and the bark regenerates indefinitely. That means no trees are harmed in the production of these cork cutting boards. Cork has self-healing properties that create a dense, durable surface.

We’re also eyeing Broadway Panhandler’s handsome collection of teak cutting boards is another green option. Proteak, the manufacturer of the teak cutting boards sold at Broadway Panhandler, is committed to taking care of the environment and their employees. They’ve earned a Forest Management certificate from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and provide jobs with benefits to 250 workers in traditionally low-income areas of Mexico. These teak beauties do need to be oiled to keep their look, but since they can travel with elegance from kitchen to dining room, they’re worth the higher price and bit of extra effort.
