Is Dollar General Open on Thanksgiving Day 2022?
Between the pre-pandemic push encouraging retailers to give employees holidays off and the post-pandemic normalization of online shopping, figuring out which stores will be open on Thanksgiving has become a little more complicated as of late. Add to that the fact that some Black Friday deals and discounts began as early as last month, many stores no longer need the extra day to maximize their holiday sales.
With the variety of products available at Dollar General stores, however, the discount chain falls into a special category. Despite carrying a variety of food items, it’s technically not considered a grocery store, so you might not automatically expect it to be open for at least part of the day on Thanksgiving.
On the other hand, a trip to Dollar General might save you some time if you just need a couple of items that you might otherwise grab from a big box store. And as DG stores are usually smaller than a Walmart or Target, getting in and out might be a little simpler. But that all depends on whether or not Dollar General will be open on Thanksgiving Day.
Though the company’s website does not specify holiday hours, nor does it include a message about holiday closures, it most likely that Dollar General will be open on Thanksgiving Day. In the past, the brand’s official Facebook account has offered an update on their store schedules across the country, but they haven’t confirmed this through social media yet for this year.
The site, Holiday Schedule — which aggregates store hours for various retailers across all major holidays — however, has noted that most Dollar General stores will adopt an extended schedule on Thanksgiving, conducting business from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The stores will return to regular operation hours on Black Friday.
Those hours were also reported by local news outlets in Raleigh, Staten Island, and Syracuse, so this is most likely the national policy. Do bear in mind though that in addition to the holiday, some Dollar General stores may also be impacted by a staffing shortage, prompting particular locations to keep the doors closed on Thanksgiving. So to avoid a disappointment at the door, be sure to call ahead to confirm your local DG is open for business!
