Q: I’m an avid Kitchn reader from Budapest, Hungary and I am in need of your help. Our oven stopped working today and I am hosting a dinner party for 10-15 friends this weekend. I was wondering if you could suggest some recipes — appetizers, mains, finger foods — that require no baking in the oven and would please a crowd.

Editor: Eszter, risotto is a warming, crowd-pleasing main dish that doesn’t require an oven. This recipe is made with pearled barley instead of rice, so it doesn’t require as much stirring — much easier for a party! — but is still really tasty:

Readers, can you suggest any dinner party recipes that don’t use the oven?
