This TikToker Turned a Custom Bookcase into a Kitchen Cabinet

TikTok user Slone (aka @slonesweethome) has been taking followers along for the ride as she transforms her “1993 dated cottage style home” into something a bit more modern. Slone and her husband have put a ton of work into every square inch — including ditching the outdated floating kitchen cabinets in favor of a custom built brick wall along the backside — adding style and flair by way of a bookcase she’s repurposed as a standalone kitchen cabinet.

The distressed white oak bookcase looks uniquely at home along Slone’s countertops, with the content creator sharing in the comments section on TikTok that she anchored it to the brick wall by “[securing it] to the wall studs at the top behind the crown molding.” She also shared that she designed the bookcase herself, writing, “I had it made. I sketched it. Asked for it to be aged, to look antique.”

Over on Instagram, Slone shared a bit more about the project, responding to one commenter who asked: “what are you putting inside? Kitchenware or decor? Inquiring minds want to know! 😍.” She replied: “It’s full. Plates, bowls, everyday stuff. [Plants and] books at the top. I may add artwork in the back.”

In a separate Instagram video, she detailed the process of adding a vent hood along the wall adjacent to her bookcase cabinet, with the entire thing coming together to create a truly unique, farmhouse-style decor scheme truly befitting of her charming cottage-style home. And while some commenters seemed dismayed by where she situated the bookcase along the countertops, Slone reminded them that the placement is her choice and makes sense for the design scheme she was going for, which involved making room for the vent hood while also ensuring that her cabinets could open fully without issue.

It’s proof positive that with a little bit of creativity, your favorite bookcase might just make some stellar kitchen cabinet space.
