For Black families, connection and community have been centered in the kitchen for centuries, especially around the holidays. Just in time for this year’s festivities, Target dropped a new collection of stylish and affordable kitchen electronics from CRUX in partnership with Ghetto Gastro, and I can’t wait to incorporate some of these pieces into my own holiday traditions.

If you haven’t heard of Ghetto Gastro, they’re a Bronx-based culinary collective comprised of chefs and food enthusiasts that formed back in 2012 and now includes members Jon Gray, Lester Walker, and Pierre Serrão. Last year, the group and CRUX co-founder Shae Hong launched a wildly popular, exclusive line of seven CRUXGG products in partnership with Williams-Sonoma. The double rotating waffle iron sold out in just 48 hours! Based on the success of that collection, Ghetto Gastro partnered with CRUX again on an even more competitively-priced line of electric countertop appliances only available at Target, and they’re flying off the shelves again.

When it comes to shopping for kitchen appliances, its easy to find yourself sacrificing style for function, but with this collection you don’t have to. The CRUXGG By Ghetto Gastro collection at Target features eight products each available in two modern, matte colorways, Smoke Gray and Snow White. All of these appliances can be scored for less than $200, with prices ranging from $49.99 to $179.99, and they’re all sleek and stylish enough to display right on your countertop should you want to.

“My favorite CRUXGG product is the double air fryer because it’s always a family meal in my house,” Serrão said of the line. “It’s a major key that we can get larger quantities of extra crispy bites and even whole birds out while hosting our friends and family.” The air fryer basket is huge (nine quarts to be exact!) and can cook two items to perfection separately, which is a point of differentiation with other models on the market.

In addition to being truly stylish and well-designed, I’ve tried a few pieces from this collection, and they’re some best appliances I have ever used. The red non-stick cooking surfaces are smooth, scratch-resistant, and perfect for cooking literally anything — and they’re a breeze to wipe down afterwards! I have the electric griddle and the double air fryer, and I can confidently recommend both.

The best part about this collaboration though is what’s going on behind the scenes. Ghetto Gastro has committed to donating 5 percent of all proceeds from the line directly to non-profits like Sky High Farms, Project Eats, Summer Everythang, Culture Aid New Orleans, and Isuroon, all organizations working to end food insecurity in underserved communities. “It’d be a missed opportunity if we didn’t use our platform to highlight structural inequities,” Gray said in regard to the global hunger crisis. “Our connection to the people is a belief that we should all be treated and fed equally,” Walker added.

On the hunt for holiday deals? Lots of these items are currently on sale. Grab what you want before it’s too late. You won’t regret it, and these appliances make great gifts, too!
