Are you familiar with the power of ECDs? Of course you are — you’re a cook! ECDs, or easy chicken dinners, are the LBDs (ahem, little black dresses) of the cooking world. You need at least one, and you’re probably always looking for the next one that will make your dinner more delicious with less effort.

I like to think that as an editor for Kitchn, I’m always on the hunt for the next ECD to share with our readers. So today I’m highlighting one that could potentially knock your apron off its hook. It checks off all the boxes.

  • Ready in under 30 minutes
  • Kinda, sorta healthy (no cream, but it’s creamy)
  • Not a ton of ingredients
  • It’s not boring

That last point, I think, is crucial for a successful ECD. This recipe is super interesting because it’s creamy but it uses milk, butter, and all-purpose flour to get that texture. There’s also a ton of garlic and basil in this recipe, which you know makes things taste better.

To make the recipe, you heat seasoned chicken breast in a skillet until cooked through. Then, you make your creamy mixture with garlic, butter, flour, and milk. You then add oregano, basil, and seasoning to the mixture and cook for a little bit before adding the chicken back into the pan. You can serve the resulting dish over buttered vegetables, mashed potatoes, or rice.
