When I have friends coming over for dinner, I find it difficult to get excited because I worry that they won’t enjoy my food. That’s why I’m always on the lookout for no-fail dishes that are both easy to make (I don’t need to stress out over the cooking process, too!) and guaranteed crowd-pleasers.

I’m definitely adding this creamy chicken tetrazzini to my list.

The food blog Little Spice Jar is behind this comfort food dish, which combines a white sauce, sauteed mushrooms, egg noodles, and breadcrumbs with tender shredded chicken. Sounds like the kind of hearty meal your guests would be all too happy to scarf down on a chilly evening.

To make it, you’ll first have to sauté the mushrooms, which you’ll then set aside for later along with the chicken and noodles, which will also need to be cooked beforehand. Then on to the sauce. The key to this white sauce is sour cream, which adds an extra layer of flavor, but it also contains onion and garlic powder and white cheddar cheese. Pre-shredded cheese won’t work for this recipe because it’s coated in starch, which will prevent your sauce from becoming creamy.

Once the sauce is done, you’ll fold in the noodles and chicken as well as the mushrooms. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top (which have also been seasoned with garlic powder), and bake for at least 30 minutes.

That’s all it takes to make a meal that is cause for celebration all on its own. And if you serve it at a dinner party, I’m sure your friends will be celebrating you too by the end of the night.
