Cottage cheese is having a moment. From cottage cheese pasta to cottage cheese pancakes, cottage cheese is the “it ingredient” of the year. And now that it’s having its viral moment online, I’ve found yet another cottage cheese recipe that I might actually be able to get behind.

Cottage cheese cookie dough is the latest trend to make its way through the TikTok-sphere, and if there is one thing that can catch my attention in a heartbeat, it’s the promise of chocolate chip cookie dough. The recipe, which was posted by Sam Gwaz, uses cottage cheese, maple syrup, vanilla extract, almond flour, and protein powder to create a surprisingly delicious snack in less than five minutes. The skeptic inside of me wanted to dislike this recipe right off the bat, but I reminded myself of how tasty cottage cheese ice cream actually was, so I decided to give this recipe a shot.

How to Make Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough

Start by adding low-fat cottage cheese, vanilla extract, and maple syrup to a blender and blend until smooth.

Pour the cottage cheese mixture into a large bowl and add protein powder and almond flour.

Mix until completely combined, then finish it off with chocolate chips. Now grab a spoon and enjoy!

My Honest Opinion of Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough

As I mentioned above, I was pretty skeptical of this recipe at first. But the versatility of cottage cheese is what’s most surprising about this recipe. Blending it until smooth gives it an entirely different look that would sway plenty of skeptics to the other side of the proverbial cottage cheese fence. Upon first taste of the finished product, I can say without a doubt that cottage cheese cookie dough does in fact taste like cookie dough. Each bite was a delight, and I found myself finishing my small portion faster than expected.

Although this is not a snack I can see myself preparing regularly, it is a recipe that I am happy to have in my back pocket; I will definitely whip it out in the future to impress a friend who loves cottage cheese.

2 Tips for Making Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough

  • Add almond flour one cup at a time. I found that after adding both cups of almond flour, my cookie dough had a bit too grainy of a texture. I wish I had added the flour one cup at a time, taking the time to smooth it out and assess how much more was needed to be added in the process.
  • Store in an airtight container for freshness. I would recommend storing the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Keeping this snack fresh is the best way to ensure it still tastes amazing after a couple of days in the fridge.
