Costco Is Selling Limited-Edition Lay’s Fried Pickles with Ranch Chips Right Now
Everything is bigger and better at Midwestern state fairs, so when Lay’s dove into creating a flavor designed after favorite fair snacks, Costco was an obvious place to sell it. Fried pickles dipped in ranch dressing is a big seller at the annual summer festivals, a killer combination in a place where fried food and dairy compete for the most absurd creations to woo customers. That is why, as Hip2Save reports, Lay’s decided to create the fried pickles with ranch flavor potato chips for the Tastes of America campaign last year — and now they’re back in your local Costco.
The campaign looked to turn popular foods from around the country into potato chip flavors. Beyond the fried pickles with ranch, there was also deep dish pizza from Chicago, lobster rolls from New England, pimento cheese, chili con queso, crab spice, Cajun spice, and Thai sweet chili. But as of right now, it seems that only the fried pickles with ranch were a big enough hit to roll them out to the shelves of your local big box store.
It helped that Lay’s already had a hit with their dill pickle chips, so these were just an addition to their arsenal, capitalizing on the big pickle-flavor trend right now — there’s pickle popcorn, pickle tortilla chips, and more out there right now. When Kitchn had the opportunity to try the chips, we thought they lacked a little in the ranch department, but we definitely think they’re worth trying again.
Because it started as a temporary flavor and has just since shown up on shelves, with the 23-ounce giant bag selling for $4.99, there’s no telling how long the chips will be on shelves, so if this flavor is up your alley, you’ll want to get to Costco soon and grab some.
