For those of you that shop at Costco, you may want to check your pantries. The membership-only big-box retail store announced the news that it’s pulling its Kool-Aid Tropical Punch Mix off the shelves due to the “potential presence of foreign material, specifically very small pieces of metal or glass.” The announcement came on behalf of the FDA and Kraft Heinz Company.

Kool-Aid — the famous brand of flavored drink mixes — is owned by Kraft Heinz and over its near 100-year span, has remained a favorite childhood beverage across generations. This is due both to the brand’s rainbow of mixes that taste like summertime in a glass, and for its quirky commercials where The Kool-Aid Man mascot, a life-sized pitcher of Kool-Aid, randomly bursts through fences and walls of homes to help make a batch of the colorful concoction.

This recall is specifically for the 82.5-ounce Tropical Punch Mix flavor containers with the “Best When Used By” date of 2023-08-31 or 2023-09-01, and can commonly be found at warehouses in select Costco Business Centers as well as those in the Los Angeles region and in the Northwest region. If your packaging includes these dates, you are encouraged not to use the mix and return it to Costco for a full refund.

If your packaging doesn’t bear any of these dates, you can enjoy a tall glass of your beloved flavor mix while pretending you’re wearing your favorite pair of jorts (jean shorts) during a summertime BBQ. If that’s not really your thing, you can always use the mix to clean your dishwasher.
