It’s probably safe to assume that in any modern reboot of Golden Girls, Blanche, Sophia, Dorothy, and Rose would all be Costco members. Sophia would crush the free samples, Rose would marvel at the giant jars of mayonnaise, Blanche would hit on the employees, and Dorothy — well, she knows a sensible deal when she sees one.

Another reason they’d be big fans of Costco? Cheesecake. Specifically, cheesecake from the iconic Brooklyn restaurant Junior’s. Eagle-eyed Instagrammer @Costcobuys shared the news on their account recently that Costco is selling 3-pound Junior’s cheesecakes for just $17.99.

Growing up in Connecticut, I was obsessed with cheesecake — particularly Junior’s. It was such a nostalgic food for me that when I moved to North Carolina for college, my mom had one shipped all the way from New York to my dorm. To this day, you can still order one from the Junior’s website, but at $55.95 a piece plus another $17-$26 for shipping for just one cheesecake, it’s a pretty pricey treat. Whichever Costco employee did the negotiating with Junior’s to get the price down to $17.99 deserves a Nobel Prize if you ask me.

I’m not the only one who is excited about this new arrival though. According to some of the comments left on the Instagram post, fans of Junior’s are ecstatic about the brand being offered in Costco. “My favorite, I love heavy NY style cheesecake!” writes one user.

With their buy-and-sell-in-bulk business model, Costco has long been able to offer everything from eggs to the irresistible Sanders Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels at deeply discounted prices, a practice that leads to one of the highest customer retention rates in the country. (In 2021 alone, it was estimated that 91 percent of U.S. Costco customers renewed their memberships.) And now that they’re selling Junior’s cheesecakes, I’m willing to bet Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia would all renew too.
