Back in the hot seat again, Costco just announced the recall of two products sold at its locations — Greek yogurt and shrimp street tacos — due to an undeclared allergen and the potential presence of plastic. Two companies issued warnings for customers to steer clear of the products, though no illnesses or deaths have been reported at this time. The first announcement, which was released this week, includes the recall of single and 12-pack cases of Ellenos Real Greek LLC’s 4-ounce cups of Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt. Believed to contain undeclared egg, this product puts people with egg allergies at serious risk, potentially causing a life-threatening allergic reaction.

Ellenos’ decision to recall the product spawned from the realization that the brand accidentally used the label in question to package their lemon curd yogurt product. The affected yogurt cups come in a clear plastic cup with a blue foil seal and blue lettering, have a “best before” date of 4/23/2023, and feature UPC code 8 57290 00620 1. Cases of the yogurt have UPC 8 57290 00617 1, and both were sold at Costco warehouses in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington.

The second recall was issued by seafood company Pescanova, regarding their frozen Shrimp Street Taco with Roasted Corn, Poblano & Chipotle Sauce, and the potential for plastic contamination — specifically pieces of plastic up to 5 millimeters in size. The company announced it was pulling the product from the market and urged anyone who purchased it to refrain from eating it, even though it is not yet listed as an official recall on the FDA website. The Pescanova products that were affected are labeled with lot numbers 23-359, 230370, and 230411 on both the inner and outer packages.

If you have purchased either of these products recently, make sure you dispose of or return the product to its place of purchase for a full refund instead of consuming it. And since you’re already checking in on your food safety, take a look at another recent Costco recall that you’ll appreciate having on your radar sooner than later.
