It’s always a delicious thing when Costco brings back its baked goods after pulling them off the shelves. But if you’re a fan of Costco’s Butter Cinnamon Sugar Loaves, we have some good and bad news. The good news is that the sweet dessert, with its cult following and a fair share of copycat recipes, is back at Costco. The not-so-great news? Just like everything else, the price has increased, and it will cost fans a bit more than they’re used to paying.

The dessert, which comes in a pack of three, is now being sold for $14.99 — a $4 hike from its January 2022 price and $6 rise from its December 2020 listing.

The discovery was made by Laura — the mom and self-proclaimed Costco addict behind @costcohotfinds — and shared on their social media. “Butter Cinnamon Sugar!!! Basically like a churro bread — this is fantastic, and it makes the best French toast!!” the Instagram post read.

The news, however, wasn’t met with excitement by all followers, and judging by the comments, people are not too happy about the price bump. “Honestly can’t justify spending almost $20 for 3 small sugary bread loaves,” said one user. “Lately they look smaller too,” another user pointed out, while another noted the steep price increase writing, “This was 8.99 in 2021… just sayin.”

The questionable price increase isn’t enough to stop the ride-or-die fans though. “Why is it so surprising to everyone that there’s been a price increase??? Haters gonna hate, but these are delicious! Freeze one or two and enjoy the other,” commented another user.

We’re not quite sure if the price change is due to supply chain issues, inflation, shortage of eggs, or all of the above, and unfortunately, the retail giant isn’t supplying us with any answers just yet. But if you’re hesitant to pay 15 bucks for this baked good at Costco, the bakery section has added a new cherry and cheese pastry that you’ll want to try ASAP — and it’s only $9.99.

Looking for a new way to make French toast that could be a bit cheaper? Hong Kong-style French toast just may be what you’re looking for.
