Costco Has a New $16 Slider Kit That Will Save Busy Weeknights
Meal kits have been a booming market in recent years — in both the cook-at-home and ready-to-eat format. So it should come as no surprise that Costco wanted to get in on the growing trend. We already saw their first steps into the genre with the chicken street tacos they released earlier this year, and now the wholesale shop is back with a new version that everyone is bound to love: Pit Smoked Brisket Sliders with Coleslaw. Yeah, we have a feeling it’s going to be very popular.
Spotted in the deli section by Costco Insider, the kit costs $6.99 a pound — somewhere around $16 total. It is currently rolled out in 20 stores, and should be all over the country within the month. Each container includes a big pile of their pit smoked beef brisket, nine King’s Hawaiian rolls, a tangle of coleslaw, and two plastic dressing containers — one of barbecue sauce, and one of dressing for the coleslaw.
The meal, like the chicken taco one that came before it, is the kind of thing that makes sense to do in a meal kit: You don’t necessarily need a Costco-size bag of the rolls, and the brisket is the kind of thing that takes a ton of time and effort to make (not to mention you usually have to make brisket in larger quantities). So this meal kit makes sense, from the buyer perspective, because you only get as much as you need to feed the three or four people.
This meal kit got us thinking: What else could (or should) Costco also make into a meal kit? Italian hoagies with great bread and all the fixings? Maybe a cookie-decorating kit for the holidays? Would some kind of chili thing be weird? I don’t know! But I’m excited to see what they come up with next.
