7 Costco Groceries I’m Buying on Repeat This Spring (They’re All $10 or Less)
The new year may have officially started months ago, but spring is when the fresh starts really happen. As Costco’s biggest fan here at Kitchn, the warehouse is my first stop at the onset of a new season. The store is packed with plants for green thumbs, patio furniture for the design devotees, and outdoor toys for kids of all ages.
This spring I’m welcoming spring in smaller ways. I walked in the warehouse to find the best budget groceries you can buy for this time of year. With these picks, you’ll be ready to bring the outside in, celebrate with those you love, and enjoy every bite of spring’s fresh flavors. These are the seven items I’m adding to my cart all season long — and they’re all $10 or less.
1. Deluxe Garden Bunch, $9.99
It is almost time for the daffodils to pop up outside, signaling the start of spring. Bring some of that new-growth energy inside with flower bundles from the warehouse. Choose your favorite colorway or floral variety from the Costco cooler. I love the fluffy hydrangeas and delicate baby’s breath. The bunches are big, so you are sure to have enough stems to brighten up nearly every room of the house.
2. Utz Grillo’s Pickles Classic Dill Pickle Potato Chips, $4.69 for 20 ounces
No picnic is complete without the salty crunch of potato chips. This spring I’m trying a new flavor from a brand that I love. Utz has partnered with Grillo’s Pickles to make a dill pickle potato chip that sounds like the perfect side to serve with club sandwiches and cookies.
3. S & W Organic Canned Garbanzo Beans (Chickpeas), $8.79 for 8 (15.5-ounce) cans
Chickpeas (also called garbanzo beans) are a staple in my house all year long, but especially in springtime. These beans are the base for so many recipes that feel fresh for the season, like air fryer chickpeas to snack on at the park or a salad of marinated chickpeas with hunks of feta, and chopped spring vegetables just right for a light dinner. End the day with something sweet, like juicy strawberries dipped in a sweetened chickpea whipped cream or homemade chocolate hummus.
4. Hampton Hills Petite Asparagus Spears, $9.69 for 2.5 pounds
Asparagus is the harbinger of spring, so to be able to have it at a moment’s notice (from the freezer, no less) is a gift! The petite spears come portioned in four (10-ounce) steamable bags and need just a squeeze of lemon, salt, and pepper. You can also roast or air fry the asparagus (just check them a few minutes early) or add the asparagus to pizza, stir-fries, and skillet dinners.
5. Reser’s Main Street Bistro Oven Roasted Potatoes, $8.99 for 40 ounces
These refrigerated roasted potatoes are the perfect springtime shortcut. Serve them with skillet-seared lamb chops for date night at home or serve them for a crowd with bourbon-glazed ham. When it’s warm enough, spend your time reacquainting yourself with the grill, leaving the sides up to Costco.
6. Kirkland Signature Master Carve Half Ham, $3.39 per pound (about 2.5-pound packages)
Ham and spring go hand in hand. Serve this ham for smaller holiday gatherings, but don’t wait for a special occasion to pick this up. Add the ham to this cozy scalloped potato dish that is (gasp!) better than Grandma’s. Host a casual brunch for friends this weekend, adding ham, asparagus, and Gruyère to puff pastry. Put together an easy French baguette sandwich for park picnics with ham (of course!), mustard, cheese, and pickles.
7. Strawberries, $6.99 for 2 pounds
After celebrating citrus all winter long, I’m ready for strawberries come spring. Serve them fresh on a Dutch baby for breakfast or with a hint of orange from a muffin pan. Strawberries add their signature pink hue to smoothies, creamy yogurt lassi, or this homemade strawberry-pineapple whip. For spring celebrations, I am debating between baking this beautiful fresh strawberry cake and a classic strawberry-rhubarb pie.
