From the moment I started remixing ramen noodles into gourmet meals and spending hours watching cooking shows as a puny six-year-old, I knew I found a deep passion for food. While I realized — after taking on a two-year high school internship in an award-winning kitchen — that a…read more

My experience working at a cheese magazine showed me how dedicated experts in this industry are to their craft. Each year, numerous award ceremonies take place where organizations evaluate a wide range of cheese varieties. They examine factors such as appearance, taste, texture, production methods, and even aroma. After careful assessment, judges award prizes to the makers and brands that produce the most outstanding cheeses. While many of the awarded cheeses tend to be on the pricier side, there are usually a few selections that you can snag in mainstream stores.

If you visit the cheese section at Costco, you’ll spot an English cheddar that has won multiple prestigious awards, such as the British Cheese Awards and the International Cheese Awards. The best part? You can snag a huge two-pound block for just $10.

People on Reddit can’t stop raving about Costco’s Kirkland Signature Coastal Cheddar Cheese. One user praised it by saying, “One of my absolute favorites, especially because of the crystals!” If you’re unfamiliar with cheese crystals, they are naturally occurring crunchy granules that form in aged cheeses.

Coastal Cheddar is a well-loved cheese made by Ford Farm, a cheesemaker located in the United Kingdom. According to the brand’s website, this cheese is aged at the Ford Farm Dairy, which is situated along the world heritage Jurassic Coast, where it benefits from the salty sea air. Typically, this block is aged for around 15 months, resulting in a sharp flavor, but the culture added to it helps impart a subtly sweet note.

Creator @lucialoveswine, who shares content about wine and occasionally cheese, recently posted about this special find at Costco. People quickly flooded the comment section with enthusiasm. One commenter said, “That cheese is no joke. Aged cheddar like that is so good; it even has the prized protein crystals.” Another user added, “It’s such a great, dry, crumbly cheddar! I smoked it last year, and it turned out amazing!”

This tasty cheese available at Costco shows that you can enjoy high-quality curds without breaking the bank. If you’re on the hunt for a new wedge to enhance your charcuterie board, this is definitely one you should consider trying.
