How many structures do we humans have that exist purely for a ritualistic use surrounding food and drink? Not too many, so it's no wonder that tea houses are such special little gems. Their construction and use goes way back, but that doesn't stop new ones from being designed even today:

These are just five contemporary tea houses that we find inspiring. They're special, restful spaces that honor the Japanese tea ceremony within contemporary life:
