Consume Within, a new free iPhone app (additional features available for $2.99) promises users will save money, curb spoiled food occurrences, and help reduce food waste. Will it change your pantry?
The app is essentially a method for organizing perishable food. Enter items by taking photos or scanning codes downloaded from the site, which you then must place on each food item. The aesthetics of the site are pretty cool; you have the option of customizing each food exactly how it appears in your fridge or pantry and it's displayed sorted as you wish.

At first glance, I can see this being helpful at the grocery store — just look at the app to see if your gallon of milk is nearing expiration or if it's time to buy new sliced turkey from the deli. For freezer items, I think the old fashioned method of writing the date on the package works better for me. However, if you're the type who regularly uses a label maker in the pantry, then Consume Within's sticker code system could be what you've been waiting for.
