How Often Do You Wear an Apron?People
I have been unpacking in my new kitchen over the past month, and as I hung up my aprons I considered what a stack of them I have, and how infrequently I actually wear them. I find that I often feel constricted with an apron around my neck, and opt to wear casual, easily washed t-shirts and jeans in the kitchen instead of fussing with an apron. What about you? Do you always wear an apron? If so, why? Or do you eschew the apron for daily cooking but throw on a frilly one when you have company?

Like Trader Joe’s, Costco, and Target, IKEA has its own cult following. And even infrequent IKEA shoppers have probably heard of the RÅSKOG Utility Cart and the BILLY Bookcase. This way, there’s less pressure on you when you’re wandering through that snake-like maze.

Ugly Kitchen Floor? Change It with a Floor ClothKitchen
One of the biggest complaints, and hardest things to change, about a rental kitchen is the floor. When you own a kitchen you can put down new tile or wood floors — but even then you may not want to for reasons of cost. So, many of us are stuck with ugly, peeling linoleum tile, but here’s one great option for renters and budget owners alike: Canvas floor cloths. Floor cloths (or floorcloths) are a rather antique form of floor covering.

The cloth was then hung to dry to produce an almost waterproof fabric.

Owls on Towels! Lapuan Kankurit Tea Towels & Textiles from FinnStyleKitchen

The Best Kitchen Towels Aren’t Actually Kitchen Towels (or Even Towels)Kitchen
A few years ago, a fellow cooking class instructor and I were setting up for class when the topic of kitchen towels came up. She offhandedly mentioned her favorite towels weren’t really even made for the kitchen, but were in constant use after she had kids. Can you guess what she was talking about? Cloth diapers! Turns out that good ol’ fashioned cloth diapers also double as kitchen or even regular household towels.

One Simple Trick to Using Fewer Paper TowelsKitchen
Recently, I was talking to Melissa Maker, author of Clean My Space. While I consider myself pretty neat and tidy, she’s made a career out of being a bit of a clean freak — she ran a cleaning company for 11 years, has her own line of cleaning products, and for-real washes her kitchen towels every day! And there’s one common cleaning tool she just loves to hate: paper towels. “Paper towels are the worst!” complains Maker.

Your Search for the Perfect Dish Towel Is OverTools
If you’re anything like me, you’ve accumulated a drawer full of mismatched kitchen towels. Some of them are decorative tea towels, none of which get the job done when it comes to drying. Some of them soak up water, but leave behind an equal amount of lint. And some of them do what they’re supposed to — they’re just so darn ugly.

The Aha Moment That Helped Me Kick My Paper Towel Habit to the CurbKitchen
My name is Susan and I’m a former paper towel abuser. I recycle and compost and use LED lightbulbs. I buy non-toxic cleaning products, sustainable clothing, aluminum-free deodorant, clean mascara, and organic tampons. The only thing bursting my eco-bubble was my Bounty habit. Yeah, I said it — BOUNTY. No thin, gray, non-absorbent recycled paper towels for me. I liked my PT’s plush and bleached. The Quicker-Picker Upper or death.

This Is the Worst Place to Hang Your Kitchen TowelKitchen
Kitchen towels are serious helpers in the kitchen. Not just used for drying (dishes, your hands, fruit, and more), they’re also what we grab in a pinch for a quick cleanup or as a workaround oven mitt or makeshift lid to keep food warm after it comes out of the oven. Plus, they can add some serious style to a kitchen. Of course, anytime you have something with so many roles, you run the risk of spreading germs — especially when you store it someplace where it gets even more exposure.

The $6 Trader Joe’s Find Your Kitchen and Bathroom Have Been MissingTools
We’ve sung the praises of Fouta (aka Turkish towels, Peshtemal, or Hammam) before. They’re lightweight and thin, which makes them great for folding and storing, but still pretty absorptive. If they’re authentic, the cotton gets softer with every wash. They come in a bunch of shades, perfect for adding a pop of color to any space that needs it.

The Unexpected Home Buy I Always Get at CostcoTools
I’ve always been a fan of Costco. My favorite FILA sweatshirt and Adidas track pants were from Costco, and had I held onto these pieces, I’d probably be rocking them again right now.
