Recipe: Sheet Pan Chocolate-Almond Toffee
Toffee is one of the best holiday gifts you can give friends, family, and yourself! It can be made in advance, and one batch makes a lot but you only need a small piece of the crisp, rich, chocolate-y treat to be satisfied. All you have to do is cook butter and sugar together into a buttery caramel, then let it cool with a layer of melted deep, dark chocolate and toasty almonds on top until you can break it into beautiful shards.

My Favorite Road Trip Snacks from Around the World
A few months ago I found myself in the passenger seat of a rental car, winding through the steep, snow-capped Dolomites, a knife smeared with cheese and fig jam in my hand and breadcrumbs strewn across my lap. My boyfriend and I were road tripping from Vienna to Milan, and we had gone a bit overboard with the snacks. My love for road trips and snacks was inherited.

5 Important Rules of Road Trip Snacks
In my life, I have taken a lot of road trips. I have also eaten a lot of snacks. Along the way, I’ve learned that there’s a science to road trip snacks. Here are my five rules of road trip snacks. They should be simple, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be gourmet; they should be varied enough that you don’t get bored an hour into the drive; and, most importantly, they should have a local element. Experiment when you can’t read the labels.

The Reason Why Americans Are Snacking More than Ever
Americans are snacking more than ever and there are two reasons behind it, according to new research from Mintel: stress and attitude. Self-care is having a moment in American culture and part of that mindset means allowing yourself to indulge when you need a break or simply feel stressed out. Snacking frequency has seen a spike, and the proof is in the numbers: Fifty percent of Americans snacked two to three times a day in 2015, but 55 percent admit to the same habit in 2017.

This Hotel Bar Has the Best Snacks
Bowls of honey-roasted peanuts and popcorn kernels tumbling out of brown paper bags were once standard-issue bar snacks — welcome but generic placeholders until dinner reservations two hours later. Now they run the gamut from okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancakes) to pimento buns, often standing in for a casual, graze-fueled supper. Hotel boîtes are especially astute at showcasing cocktails’ gustatory sidekicks.

5 Reasons Cheese Curls Are Better than Cheese Balls
When it comes to selecting a bright-orange, synthetic cheese-covered cornmeal snack with which to fill your bowl, there really is only one choice: cheese puffs. Although, indeed, there are some cheese ball enthusiasts out there, I contend that a puff-centric Super Bowl party will be vastly superior to one in which those little orbs run rampant. So lick the powder off your fingers, and read these five reasons why puffs outscore balls every single time. Eating a cheese ball isn’t natural.

5 Reasons Soft Pretzels Are Inferior to Hard Ones
Pretzels — or pretzeled bread, if you want to be a stickler about it — were likely invented by monks all the way back in the Early Middle Ages (known in anthropological circles as the “pre-Cronut era”). And, all things considered, they really haven’t changed that much in the hundreds upon hundreds of years since. But even way back then, the monks could choose to eat their invention one of two ways: hard or soft.

To make this wholesome cake a bit more sweet, we’re finishing it off with a drizzle of bittersweet chocolate. I love the ease of making this cake. Like banana bread, it’s a one-bowl wonder, thanks to the use of oil instead of creamed butter and sugar.

I have tried different thicknesses of potato slices; I have even wasted my time blanching the slices in vinegar solution which does help give a lighter color end result, but saps the flavor.
