How to Make a Peppermint Gingerbread House
Here’s a great cookie to pair with your next peppermint mocha! This is from Cookie Craft Christmas, which we reviewed earlier today. We really like this easy recipe for gingerbread houses; it’s a lot more accessible (and eat-able) than all those more constructed and fancy gingerbread houses.Peppermint Gingerbread HouseFrom Cookie Craft Christmas by Valerie Peterson and Janice Fryer, published by Storey Publishing Gingerbread has been a European holiday staple for centuries.

Recipe: Nutmeg-Lemon Pfeffernusse
Pfeffernüsse are not only fun to say (feh-fer-noose) but a fabulous treat to add to the holiday cookie platter.Translated from German pfeffernüsse means “pepper nuts,” which is – aptly – a good part of what these traditional Christmas cookies consist of. We took the original and made it a bit more contemporary by adding lemon zest, dropping a few spices (although we did keep in a dash of black pepper for nostalgia’s sake) and amping up the nutmeg flavor.

Holiday Cookie Recipe: Komish Broit
We asked some of our favorite food bloggers to share a holiday treat with us over our holiday break. I have enjoyed Ele Busing’s blogs so much this past year. She actually writes three: Kitchenisms, Kitchlit, and Kitchenist. Each focuses on a different part of the cooking experience and they’re a delight to read. Here’s a post from her on her own favorite Christmas cookie.

These Snowball Cookies are Perfect for Holiday Potlucks
It’s the holiday season and while my household celebrates Christmas, we’re also just as likely to attend holiday events that don’t necessarily match its red and green theme. (Hanukkah, Solstice, Buddha’s Enlightenment, etc.) I love to bring a plateful of cookies as a gift or potluck offering, so this year I gave my usual Christmas cookie recipe some new, more ecumenical party clothes. Read on for the transformation!

Halloween Recipe: Two-Bite Nutella Chocolate Cookies
Here’s a quick little Halloween treat for you! Nothing spooky about these two-bite cookies, just a touch of rich Nutella to indulge your sweet tooth and a drizzle of icing to dress them up in full Halloween style. Guaranteed to appease all the ghosts, goblins, and witches who stop by for a treat.I love the crinkled, craggy tops on these cookies. You know a cookie is going to be good with a top like that.

Recipe: Chunky Monkey Cookies
Chocolate chunks, chopped walnuts, and banana chips — once I got the idea in my head to make a cookie version of Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey ice cream, I couldn’t stop obsessing. With all the ingredients in my cupboard, why prolong the inevitable? This cookie is a riff on my Favorite Cookie Ever, i.e., chocolate chip cookies, slightly modified from the back-of-the-bag version.

Cookie Recipe: Toffee-Chocolate Chip Shortbread
Frankly, I don’t really understand the December cookie craze. If you ask me what my favorite Christmas cookie is, I’ll tell you chocolate chip. Only chocolate chip. At least, that would have been my firm answer right up until last week when I discovered Regan Daley’s butter-toffee crunch shortbread and had a change of heart. It was love at first bite, and it took everything in me not to hide in the pantry and devour the whole pan.

Homemade Gift Recipe: “Seven Layer” Chocolate Truffles
It doesn’t matter what you call them, whether its Seven Layer Bars, Magic Bars, or Hello Dolly’s, these nostalgic delights are always reason enough to celebrate. To make these classic bars gift-worthy — and even more amazing — I shrunk them down into irresistible chocolate truffle form. I’ve probably said it here before, but traditional Christmas cookies just aren’t in my bag of tricks.

Sharpen your pencil—it’s time for New Parent Math!New Parent + Baby = StressStress + Sugar = Less StressI can’t think of a time when I needed sweets more than during my son’s infancy. I mean, c’mon, there’s actual science that shows eating sugar can reduce stress. Recipe: Chocolate Chip Cookie Bark
Cookie-baking season is in full swing, but I’m going the no-bake route this year! Instead of turning out sheets of sugar cookies, I’ve been melting chocolate into batch after batch of holiday bark — first with this White Chocolate Cheesecake Bark, then with this Elvis Bark, and now today’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Bark. This version is my favorite so far. White and dark chocolate get swirled together to form the base (so pretty!

Recipe: Sugar Cookie Cake
If you really need to impress Santa this year, wow him with this stunning sugar cookie cake, decorated to look just like a festive holiday wreath. It’s surprisingly simple and so very delicious — you may never go back to baking regular cookies again! We are cookie cake fanatics at my house. I make a chocolate chip cookie cake for each of my husband’s family members on their birthdays, and I even crafted a tiered version as a wedding cake upon a friend’s request.

Recipe: Spiced Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies
For as long as I can remember, peanut butter blossoms have been a given at my family’s annual cookie swap. Showered with a light layer of crunchy sugar and filled with a signature chocolate kiss at the center, I could always count on them to be nestled amongst all the Christmas cookie classics. This year I’m bringing a spiced twist to the spread. It’s everything you’d expect from peanut butter kiss cookies, with a subtle hint of warm cinnamon.

Recipe: Salted Pistachio Brittle (Better Than Christmas Cookies!)
I was raised to always be a polite guest, but I’m going to start this guest post out on a note that could ruffle some feathers. I’m a mug of spiked hot mulled cider in and I’m feeling a little daring, so here goes nothing: I don’t much like Christmas cookies. Blasphemous, I know. Especially for a food blogger. Writing a holiday guest post. Mere days before Christmas. In my defense, I do love the ritual of making Christmas cookies.

Recipe: Pumpkin Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
I cannot leave well enough alone. As soon as I think I’ve found my chocolate chip cookie recipe, another one saunters across my computer screen singing its siren song. It drives my husband crazy, because the only recipe he wants is from his Alpha-Bakery cookbook (circa 1987). But I need more excitement in the baked goods department, which is how these voluptuous pumpkin oatmeal chocolate chip cookies found their way into my life.

Recipe: Gingerbread Chocolate Chip Cookies
These lively gingerbread-spiced chocolate chip cookies are easy to make and even easier to eat. When it comes to texture, this is a classic chocolate chip cookie — crisp on the outside, tender on the inside — but tucked into that dough is something extra special. The bright taste of ginger packs a fun and surprising wallop. The warm winter spices add a festive note and a pinch of heat, while the chocolate chips offer familiar and delicious comfort and oozy goodness in every bite.

Recipe: Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies
While I don’t follow a Paleo diet, I do believe in filling my life with delicious, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies as often as possible. These cookies are soft and chewy, with just a touch of firmness around the edges, and have a very generous helping of melty chocolate bits. Basically they’re everything you’d want from a classic chocolate chip cookie. And if they happen to skip the grains, refined sugar, and dairy, well that is just fine by me.

Cool and crisp, with a citrusy, herbaceous tang, served over tinkling cubes of ice, Pimm’s Cup is the quintessential British summer drink. Recipe: Cranberry Cream Cheese Cookie Filling
A sandwich cookie will always beat out plainer sweets in my own personal cookie swap. (Two cookies? And something in the middle? All right! No contest.) So this time of year I’m not only trying out cookies, but fillings too. Here’s a simple filling that uses up leftover Thanksgiving cranberry sauce, and looks festive. (Wouldn’t it be great between two of Nora’s cream cheese cookies?)This recipe can barely be called a recipe; it’s so simple.

Recipe: Lemon Cheesecake Cookies
Cream cheese is so often the source of such simple pleasures, and these cookies are no exception. Lemony, fluffy, and festive, with sweet drizzled icing, they’re tasty, sure — but perhaps what these cookies really have going for them is their ease. Ready? Go. This cookie dough is pretty reminiscent of cheesecake batter, but with extra flour, it’s firm enough to stand on its own without a crust (or a water bath!

Recipe: Creamy Cheesecake Cookies
When I think back to the cookie trays of my youth, so many good recipes come to mind. But the ones that stand out are the perfectly round and pillowy cream cheese cookies I always looked forward to. Dressed up with a simple dusting of powdered sugar, these tender cookies just might remind you of super-soft sugar cookies, with a subtle tang that makes them all their own. These are my favorite kind of holiday cookies.

Recipe: Buckeye Brownie Cookies
A cookie, a brownie, and a buckeye all in one — this is the perfect treat for chocolate-lovers who want to have it all. They’re everything you love about chocolate-coated peanut butter buckeyes, rich, chewy brownies, and crispy-edged, soft-baked cookies — all mashed up into the same package. Starting with a box of brownie mix makes them almost too easy to pull off.

Recipe: Spiced Carrot Oat Breakfast Cookies
I love a good breakfast cookie. I mean what’s better than having a sweet little treat first thing in the morning? These breakfast cookies are naturally sweetened with maple syrup and loaded with oats, walnuts, shredded carrots and raisins — making them perfect for a quick breakfast. Make them on Sunday, and grab them for breakfast all week long. I was inspired to make these after seeing a recipe on Heidi Swanson’s blog 101 Cookbooks.

Recipe: Brown Sugar Cookies with a Touch of Whole Wheat
This recipe was born out of an understocked pantry. A small friend came over to “help” bake cookies, and while I was whipping up the dough I realized I was out of white sugar and nearly out of flour. What to do?Brown sugar and a supplement of whole wheat flour to the rescue! And, it turns out, these cookies are so much the better for the changes. The brown sugar makes them a little softer and more supple, and also more flavorful.
