To know Cold Stone Creamery is to love Cold Stone Creamery. Unless… you’re a vegan. For years, the popular chain known for its marble slab mix-ins and ultra rich ice cream, didn’t have many offerings for its plant-based fans. In fact, the only vegan-approved item on their menu was sorbet. But on January 3, Cold Stone made a big announcement: They are now offering a fully vegan flavor of ice cream. And what’s even better news is the flavor is chocolate!

Sara Schmillan, Vice President for Marketing at Cold Stone, promises that the new item — which is made with Silk Almondmilk — will deliver on a “true ice cream experience,” which is great news for plant-based customers who still want to indulge.

Cold Stone already offers a wide range of vegan mix-ins (fresh fruit, nuts, pretzels, and sprinkles, to name a few), and a vegan sugar cone, but they’re leveling up with this menu addition. To celebrate the collaboration with Silk, Cold Stone has dreamt up a creative new composed ice cream, which is made with the chocolate frozen dessert base and a mixture of peanut butter, roasted almonds, and bananas. It’s appropriately called “Don’t Cry Over Spilled Silk,” and customers can order the item at all 931 Cold Stone locations.

Unfortunately many dairy-free ice creams don’t hit the mark when it comes to taste and texture, so I have high hopes for this one. Although I’m not a vegan, I love plant-based products and I really love chocolate ice cream. I can’t wait to try Cold Stone’s latest flavor. I may even go wild and order it in one of those vegan sugar cones.
