If you haven't come across Mallory and Savannah from Classy Clutter yet, prepare to be inspired! These two have tackled just about every DIY project you can imagine on their blog, bringing their signature sense of color and play into everything they do. They're also Pinterest darlings whose makeovers are among the most-pinned images on there.
They've updated dozens of spaces, so it's no wonder that Savannah's latest kitchen makeover is a stunner! The coolest thing about the makeover? The fact that even though it looks entirely different, she really only used two things to transform the space.
Don't believe me? Look closely and you'll see that the layout is the same, the countertops* and floors are the same, and the appliances are the same. All the biggest-ticket items stayed in place. She really just needed paint and new lights — two easy-to-install and affordable design elements — in order to make all the difference.
She used the paint two different ways. The biggest way was in painting her dark-brown cabinets white. Although this is one of the more expensive painting projects you can take on (in both time and money!), it's still a fraction of the cost of replacing the cabinets all together. Just by brightening them up, the room immediately feels brighter and more modern.
The power of paint is amazing!!! The transformations are unlimited. With just a few gallons of white paint I transformed my “faux” cherry wood cabinets (the owners before had them painted to look like cherry wood) into my dreamy white kitchen. I also did not have the budget to do a backsplash right away and so I found a stencil on Etsy for $20 and painted my own DIY backsplash. Now I love it more then a tile. Changing a space does not have to cost a ton of money. Think outside of the box when it comes to paint. Paint it’s such a easy fix! And if you paint it a color you hate.. then paint it again. Now go paint all the things. #savannahsmodernranchhouse

The other place she used paint was on the walls: That trellis floral pattern is a stenciled design! Once again, she made an impact in a budget-wise way. Wallpaper can get pricey when you use it in a large area, and so can tile. Paint was a relatively easy and affordable way to give the room a signature style.
The last ingredient: new lighting. Now, lighting is something you can certainly spend thousands of dollars on. But you can just as easily find a cool fixture from the hardware store (or IKEA!) that costs less. Here, replacing the simple drop pendants with dramatic brass chandeliers amped up the wow factor to make the space feel glamorous and modern.
It's always inspiring to see a makeover this big that's actually achievable for the bulk of us who don't have HGTV in our genes — or massive budgets!

*Okay she did change the island countertop, but the rest stayed the same!
