Ciara Interview

Anyone who grew up in the late ’90s and 2000s knows the impact that the South had on pop culture. While many people were flocking to the city of Atlanta to attend the 1996 summer Olympics, to parlay through 1999 for Freaknik, or hoping to spot their favorite celebrity at the now-defunct (and iconic) Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles up until its 2017 closing, the 2000s kids who didn’t grow up in the city and spent time watching 106 & Park weekday afternoons knew Atlanta for what it had to offer musically.

Of course, there are a few artists that you can’t leave out when Atlanta is discussed, but one in particular came out swinging with her 2004 debut album Goodies and hasn’t looked back since. Featuring the titular track, the Missy Elliott-assisted “1, 2 Step,” and “Oh,” which featured fellow Atlanta native Ludacris, Ciara’s reign as the “Princess of the South” was proven through her track record of providing feel-good tunes.

Now, a super multi-hyphenate entertainer, Ciara (who has since added mom, clothing designer, and record label owner (amongst more) to her extensive resumé) is still giving us something to dance to — even if we really don’t know how.

In a new collaboration with Rice Krispies Treats, the singer is giving us a sweet and tasty gift worth talking about. Released on June 21, Treat is the summertime song that we all need, and if you love it as much as the singer thinks you will, she’s got the perfect “treat” for you: appearing alongside her in the upcoming video.

While promoting the new track and revealing her love for RKT, Ciara took some time recently to chat with Kitchn’s News & Culture editor and gave us all the details on what encouraged the song, how fans can get involved with the video, her favorite quick and easy meal to make, the perfect way to upgrade a sandwich, and more.
