Chrissy Teigen Relearned How to Make Outback’s Bloomin’ Onion Now That She’s Sober
In 2017, an Outback Steakhouse chef came to Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s home to teach her and a group of friends how to make the restaurant chain’s signature appetizer, the Bloomin’ Onion. Sadly, a tequila-assisted nap kept Teigen from making it through the class.
She recounted the story on Instagram in July, in an Instagram post celebrating one year of sobriety. “I drank to end crazy anxiety that later mostly went away when I – get this – quit drinking! sigh. anyhow I feel really good,” the post read. “Sometimes I get really frustrated looking back on days I should remember way better than I do because of alcohol. Like when I drank cafe patron and fell asleep while an Outback Steakhouse chef taught me (my friends) how to make a bloomin onion at my house. I wish I was awake for that.”
She ended the post with a simple request: “Prayers for a blooming onion redo, @outback??”
And the good folks at Outback obliged. On Monday, December 19, Teigen posted the results of her do-over to the ‘Gram, and it looked and sounded like a great time was had by all. Leading the video set was a Boomerang of Teigen proudly displaying her ‘Bloomin Onion.
The second video in the multi-post revealed that John Legend also got in on the fun, as he showcased his battered onion while being instructed by the chef to take the next step and drop his creation in the fryer. The final video was a satisfying close-up of Teigen dunking a piece of the golden fried “Aussie-Tizer” into Outback’s secret sauce before following her first bite with a moan.
“Redemption!!!!,” she captioned the post. “I have officially learned how to make the famous bloomin onion! This was so special and so fun and so so so freaking delicious. Thank you for the redo, @outback!!”
Of course, Teigen is no stranger to the kitchen. In addition to many an IG cooking demos — often with her hubby or adorable little ones in tow — the former supermodel recently released the third installment in her Cravings cookbook series, as well as a line of baking mixes bearing the same name.
